All that is necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing. The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. No, not at all. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be.
It is by what we ourselves have done, and not by what others have done for us, that we shall be remembered in after ages. To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, be nothing. The difference between doers and dreamers is that the latter wait for the mood before taking action while the former create the mood by acting.
Change and growth take place when a person has risked himself, and dares to become involved in experimenting with his own life. Stop freewheeling, get into gear, and do something with your life. There are so many avenues to explore, so why not explore them? Never be afraid to step into the unknown, into the new. Do it fearlessly, always expecting the very best as you do so. First we will be best, and then we will be first. Though no one can go back and make a new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new end. One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man. Nothing of great value in life comes easily. Do not compromise yourself. You are all you have got.
Learning is finding out what you already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you. You are all learners, doers, teachers. Do or do not. There is no try. You cannot cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water. Do not let yourself indulge in vain wishes. It is better to light a small candle than to curse the darkness. People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are.
I do not believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they cannot find them, make them. Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no ones definition of your life, but define yourself. You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however.
If you do not do it excellently, do not do it at all. Because if it is not excellent, it will not be profitable or fun, and if you are not in business for fun or profit, what the hell are you doing there? Do not tell me this a difficult problem. If it were not difficult it would not be a problem. Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits. He who has begun his task has half done it.
